The radiation risk option: what it is and when to add it
Off by default — on by choice
The terms are unambiguous: radiation harm is covered only when the radiation option is selected in the contract. The base policy — even with the war-risk element that qualifies it for entry — does not include it. The selection happens at the purchase step, alongside the extended cover choice; after payment, the configuration is what it is.
The precise boundary of the option
The option covers radiation exposure harm. It does not open the neighbouring doors: chemical and bacteriological exposure are excluded under every configuration of this product — there is no option that adds them. And the territorial boundary stands for this option as for everything else: no cover in active-hostility zones, occupied territories or within 50 km of them. Knowing what an option does *not* do is half of buying it honestly — the full exclusions list is here.
Deciding without drama
The sober frame: the option prices a low-probability, high-consequence scenario.
- Short ordinary trip — the scenario realistically does not drive your planning; the option is genuinely optional.
- Long stays — more time under one policy means more scenarios worth closing cheaply; adding it is reasonable prudence.
- Missions near infrastructure or risk work — for volunteers, aid workers and journalists, if the radiation scenario appears in your risk planning at all, the option belongs in the policy. Full stop.
If the scenario ever materializes
The process does not change: call the assistance line first, follow instructions, keep documents. The option changes what is covered — not how help is reached.
The authoritative text
As with every boundary in this product, the defining wording lives in the insurer's published terms ↗ ↗ — the radiation clause is short, and worth reading before a trip where it matters.
Frequently asked questions
Does the base policy cover radiation harm?+
No — radiation is covered only when the radiation option is explicitly selected at purchase. The war-risk element alone does not include it.
Does the option cover chemical or bacteriological exposure?+
No — those are excluded under every configuration of the product, and no option adds them. The option covers radiation harm specifically.
Does the radiation option work in the excluded zones?+
No — the territorial boundary applies to every option: no cover in active-hostility zones, occupied territories or within 50 km of them.
Who should add the radiation option?+
Long-stay visitors as cheap prudence, and anyone whose mission planning includes the radiation scenario — volunteers, aid workers, journalists near relevant infrastructure.
Can I add the option after buying the policy?+
The configuration is set at purchase. If plans change, use the withdrawal rules and re-issue the policy with the option included.
