The 90/180 rule for visa-free entry to Ukraine

The formula

As a visa-free visitor you may spend up to 90 days within any 180-day period in Ukraine. Both numbers apply specifically to the visa-free regime; first check whether your country is visa-free.

The "rolling window" — the main trap

The 180-day period is not tied to the calendar year and does not restart with a new entry. It "rolls": on any date, look back 180 days and count how many days within that span you were in Ukraine. Under 90 — you still have allowance; at 90 — entry or further stay is already outside the rule.

A worked example

Say you spent 60 days in Ukraine in spring, left, and a month later want to return for 45 days. Look at your planned exit date: the 180-day window ending on that date already contains 60 days of presence, plus 45 new ones. That is 105 — more than 90, so the trip must be shortened or postponed until some of the "spring" days fall out of the window. The day of entry and the day of exit usually both count as days of presence.

Days add up across all trips

Crossing the border does not reset the counter: three 30-day trips within one window are the same 90 days. Frequent short visits consume the allowance just like one long trip.

If 90 days is not enough

For longer or regular stays, visa-free is the wrong tool: consider the e-Visa or a consular type D visa depending on your purpose. Overstaying has consequences — plan ahead.
