Ukraine e-Visa documents and photo: exact requirements

Published 28.07.2026✓ Reviewed 29.07.20262 min read
Short answer
A Ukraine e-Visa application requires uploading: a photo, the passport data pages, medical insurance with coverage from EUR 30,000, proof of financial self-sufficiency (accommodation booking, tour voucher, a host's guarantee letter, or a return ticket with date), and a document proving your travel purpose, in Ukrainian or English, matching your chosen category. Files are accepted as JPG, JPEG or PDF scans; every form field is completed in Latin characters. Accuracy is critical: incorrect data is grounds for refusal — and for denial of entry even with an issued e-Visa. Information valid as of 28 July 2026 per the official e-Visa source.

The upload set

Per the official e-Visa portal ↗ ↗ (information valid as of 28 July 2026), the application attaches:

  • Photo — a clear, recent portrait;
  • Passport pages — the data pages of the passport you will travel on;
  • Medical insurance with coverage from EUR 30 000 — see below, this line is checked twice;
  • Proof of financial self-sufficiency — one of: accommodation booking, tour services voucher, a guarantee letter from your host, or a return ticket with a date;
  • Purpose document — matching your category, in Ukrainian or English.

Scans are accepted as JPG, JPEG or PDF; every form field is completed in Latin characters. The application flow itself is here; whether your passport qualifies — here.

The insurance attachment — checked twice

The policy must show coverage from EUR 30 000 and it is verified both at application and at the border. For Ukraine there is a second layer the threshold alone does not solve: ordinary policies exclude war-related events, so the policy that actually works end to end is one with the war-risk element — issued for your exact travel dates.

Purpose documents by category

Each of the six e-Visa categories has its own proof: business — an invitation from a registered Ukrainian legal entity or a state body; private — a notarized invitation from a citizen or legal resident, property ownership in Ukraine, or close family ties; tourism — hotel booking, tour voucher or confirmed tour services; medical treatment — an invitation from the treating institution; cultural, scientific, educational or sports — an invitation from the hosting entity or body; foreign mass media — an assignment from your outlet. The document must match the category you select — a mismatch reads as inaccurate data.

Accuracy is a border matter, not a formality

The official rule is blunt: inaccurate data is grounds for refusal — and for denial of entry even with an issued e-Visa. Check the passport number, name transliteration and dates character by character before submitting. If a refusal does happen, here is what to do next.

Before you upload

Three checks save most applications: the insurance PDF shows the EUR 30 000 threshold and your dates; the purpose document matches the chosen category and is in Ukrainian or English; every field matches the passport exactly. Then the validity format of the visa itself decides how you use it.
